Who We Are
After seeing the local community's response to Jamie's death, Jim and Margaret Crescenzo decided to create a foundation in their daughter's honor. The Remembering Jamie Foundation is a reflection of everything that was important to Jamie in her brief 20 years: Family, Friends, Community and Education. The emphasis of the foundation is to provide support and opportunity to local students and provide safe driving education.
Our History
The foundation has raised and given out thousands in scholarships to ACCC and EHT students ever since Remembering Jamie's first Italian dinner fundraiser. Over 500 people now attend the dinner each year and it has become a annual community tradition that utilizes food donated from family, friends and area businesses. Fundraising expanded into an annual golf tournament that now brings together old friends to play and have fun in the great south jersey September weather.
Remembering Jamie Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization located in Somers Point, New Jersey. Donations to Remembering Jamie Foundation are tax deductible.
Scholarships
Jamie worked three jobs to pay for her education at ACCC. She knew first hand how expensive education has become. The Remembering Jamie Foundation currently offers annual $1,000 scholarships to students at ACCC, Richard Stockton University and EHT High School graduates.
Community Support
Jamie was an active member of Key Club and even at her young age valued community involvement and service. In that spirit, the Remembering Jamie Foundation raises funds and contributes annually to local organizations like the Police Athletic League and Covenant House. It also adopted the stretch of Ocean Heights Avenue where Jamie died through the Atlantic County Adopt-a-Road program.
Education
Jamie's tragic death was a result of driving in extreme weather conditions. Being prepared to drive in such conditions is a skill set that can be enhanced with some education and awareness. The Remembering Jamie Foundation is working with area high schools in setting up driver awareness programs for teens and producing PSA's for radio, TV and web.
About Jamie Crescenzo
In high school, Jamie was a member of the Key Club and a manager for the girls basketball team.​ She graduated from Egg Harbor Township High School in 1997 and was a full-time student at ACCC at the time of her death. She was also a shift supervisor at the CVS store in Mays Landing and taught Sunday school at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Pleasantville. Jamie Crescenzo died February 18, 2000 as the result of an auto accident. Jamie lost control of her car on Ocean Heights Avenue during a snowstorm. She was just 20 years old.
Events
The Foundation has been built on two main events a year, a dinner in February and a golf tournament in late September or early October. According to the Crescenzos more than 500 people each year attend the dinner, which utilizes food donated from friends and family.
